Seeking Deeper Understanding #010

SDTEST® has 28 different VUCA polls that calculate the 9,191 correlation values between stages of development according to the theory of Spiral Dynamics and answer options of these 28 polls.

We invite curiosity about the systemic mechanisms behind this correlation. There may be hidden variables that provide alternative explanations.

In our analysis of the poll "Ageism in Career," we found an intriguing negative correlation that warrants closer examination:

-0.1007 between the No, our organization has not systems in place to deal with cases of ageism and the Purple stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0861. This negative correlation of -0.1007 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This negative correlation of -0.1007 suggests that organizations aligned with the Purple value system are more likely to have systems in place to deal with ageism. This makes sense, given Purple's emphasis on tradition, community, and respect for elders.

In Purple societies, age is often associated with wisdom and authority. The elderly are crucial in passing down ancestral knowledge and guiding the group. Disrespecting elders would violate core Purple values.

In our analysis of the poll "Ageism’s causes," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.1046 between the No, younger people are not respected in our community and the Red stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0928. This positive correlation of 0.1046 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.1046 suggests that communities aligned with the red value system are less likely to respect younger people. Red's focus on power and dominance may lead to disregard for those seen as weaker or less experienced, like youth.

Red's impulsive, self-centered nature can breed impatience with the perceived naivete and dependency of the young. Their warrior ethos values strength and assertiveness, which they may not see in youth.

However, red should be cautious not to underestimate the power and potential of young people. Their energy and fresh perspectives can be a force for innovation and change. Channeled well, youthful impulsiveness can become dynamic leadership.

Lack of respect for any group, including the young, ultimately undermines Red's own power and influence. Wise leaders learn to harness the strengths of all.

In our analysis of the poll "Ageism in Life," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.1164 between the Age group 35-39 and the Blue stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0866. This positive correlation of 0.1164 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.1164 suggests that individuals in the 35-39 age group are more likely to align with the Blue value system. This makes sense given blue's emphasis on order, tradition, and conformity to established norms.

By the mid-30s, many have settled into stable careers and family structures. There is comfort in the predictability and security of Blue's clearly defined roles and rules. Adherence to tradition and time-honored institutions can provide a sense of meaning and belonging.

However, Blue should be mindful not to become overly rigid or closed-minded. Rapidly changing times require adaptability. Clinging too tightly to the past can breed resistance to necessary growth and reform. It will be beneficial here to analyze the additional poll, "I live thinking about my past, present or future," and to see a correlation with the Future (-0.0234 now).

The wisdom of Blue lies in upholding ethical principles and social stability while remaining open to evolving truths. Respect for order need not preclude receptivity to positive change. Balance is key.

In our analysis of the poll "Does ageism exist?" we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.0952 between the No, ageism doesn't exist within my family and community and the Orange stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0838. This positive correlation of 0.0952 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.0952 suggests that individuals aligned with the Orange value system are less likely to perceive ageism within their families and communities. Orange's focus on rationality, individualism, and achievement may lead to a view of people as autonomous actors judged by merit rather than age.

Orange values progress and innovation. They may see age as less relevant than one's ability to contribute ideas and results. Traditional notions of respecting elders or deferring to seniority hold less sway. Competence trumps convention.

However, Orange should be cautious not to overlook subtle forms of age bias. Ageism can manifest in hiring practices, workplace culture, and media portrayals, even if not overt. A genuinely rational approach requires examining unconscious prejudices.

Orange's insight lies in valuing individual potential over categorical assumptions. But this must be balanced with awareness of systemic inequities. Reason and empathy can partner to create a society of equal dignity for all ages.

In our analysis of the poll "Reasons why people give up," we found an intriguing negative correlation that warrants closer examination:

-0.0863 between the Give up their power and the Green stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0606. This negative correlation of -0.0863 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This negative correlation of -0.0863 indicates a statistical relationship where as one variable decreases, the other tends to increase, highlighting a potential connection between giving up power and the values associated with the Green stage in Spiral Dynamics.

In the context of the green value system in Spiral Dynamics, which emphasizes community, ecology, unity, and sustainability, this negative correlation could suggest that individuals who are more inclined to give up their power may exhibit characteristics or beliefs that are less aligned with the values of the Green stage.

This negative correlation suggests that individuals aligned with the green value system are less likely to believe that people give up because they surrender their power. Green's focus on empowerment, egalitarianism, and shared responsibility may lead to a view that challenges are best met through collective action, not individual abdication.

From a green perspective, framing the issue as a personal failure to maintain power ignores systemic factors that can lead to feelings of helplessness. A holistic view considers how social inequities, lack of support networks, and oppressive structures can constrain agency.

Green emphasizes that we are all interconnected. One's ability to thrive is tied to the well-being of the community. Individualizing problems fails to harness the strength of solidarity. Resilience is found through mutual care and uplifting one another.

In our analysis of the poll "Trust (by WVS)," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.0808 between the Most people can be trusted and the Yellow stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0695. This positive correlation of 0.0808 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.0808 suggests a meaningful relationship between trusting others and the Yellow stage in Spiral Dynamics. It highlights how the integrative and holistic perspective of the Yellow value system may contribute to a more trusting outlook toward people.

The Yellow stage represents a highly advanced level of development, characterized by the ability to see multiple perspectives, focus on personal growth, and understand complex systems. Individuals operating from this stage tend to have a more comprehensive and nuanced view of the world, which may lead to a greater willingness to trust others.

From a Yellow perspective, trust is not given blindly. Still, it stems from a deep understanding of human nature and the recognition that most people are inherently good and capable of positive change. This stage acknowledges the complexity of individuals and the various factors that shape their behavior, leading to a more compassionate and non-judgmental approach to interpersonal relationships.

However, it is essential to note that while the Yellow stage may be associated with a more trusting disposition, it does not imply naivety or a lack of discernment. Individuals at this stage are likely to have a well-developed sense of intuition and the ability to assess situations and people accurately, allowing them to extend trust judiciously.

In our analysis of the poll "Psychological Wellbeing (by Carol D. Ryff)," we found an intriguing positive correlation that warrants closer examination:

0.1822 between the Personal growth. I am not interested in activities that will expand my horizons. / Strongly disagree, and the Turquoise stage.

The critical value of the correlation coefficient for a normal distribution, by William Sealy Gosset (Student) r = 0.0545. This positive correlation of 0.0.1822 meets the reliability criteria but does not necessarily imply causation.

This positive correlation of 0.1822 highlights a significant connection between personal growth and the holistic, integrated perspective associated with this advanced level of human development.

The Turquoise value system represents a highly evolved worldview that recognizes the interconnectedness of all things and values diversity, tolerance, and inclusiveness. Individuals operating from this stage tend to have a deep sense of compassion, empathy, and a strong desire for personal growth and self-expansion.

This correlation suggests that those who align with the Turquoise stage will likely actively seek out activities and experiences that broaden their horizons and contribute to their personal development. They understand that growth is an ongoing process and that exposing oneself to new ideas, cultures, and perspectives is essential for expanding one's understanding of the world and oneself.
