The purple value system represents a focus on tradition and spirituality and a belief in the supernatural. It is characterized by a strong sense of community and a belief in an influential, all-knowing leader or god. According to the Spiral Dynamics model, this value system is often associated with traditional agricultural societies and is considered the second level of human development. People in purple vMeme are guided by myths, rituals, and taboos and have a strong sense of belonging to a group. In addition, they have a strong sense of identity and are guided by the laws and beliefs of their ancestors.

In our analysis of the poll "What makes people successful at work?" we found an intriguing negative correlation that warrants closer examination:

A key insight around this negative correlation is that the Purple vMeme's strong attachment to ancestral traditions and beliefs could restrict adaptability to change. At first glance, the correlation seems counterintuitive - we may assume that hierarchical power dynamics of ancestral tribes would enable corrupt exploitation. However, within tightly knit Purple groups bonded by ritual and shared mythological beliefs, perhaps exploitation by leadership seems impossible. 


Who is one to question if the chief or elder council holds god-like authority? And when survival depends intensely on group belonging, the thought of speaking out likely feels unfathomable. The correlation hints that corruption may only register once independence of thought and willingness to critique authority emerge in later vMemes.

It enables a rich inner world of symbolism and fantasy without the distraction of finding new livelihoods. 

In sum, steady work signifies providence from above and continuity of communal bonds below. It allows the timeless wisdom of elders and shamans to permeate daily affairs. From Purple, the employment guarantee upholds both material and mystical realms. This offers insight into the systemic interplay behind this telling correlation.

Their horizon for growth operates within guardrails of customs and stability rather than threatening the dismantling of familiar bonds.

This helps explain why a negative correlation makes sense for Purple. Collectivist norms still allow space for individual industriousness and betterment, albeit not radical transformation that dismantles existing social cornerstones and rituals. Personal growth unfolds along accepted trajectories aligned with communal cohesion.
